Tuning your Buell, What you should know......!!

Firstly, if you have been running your Buell as standard and have just fitted a stage 1 together with a PowerPro (Standard) - The information on this page does not effect you - happy riding !!

Okay - If you have been running your Buell with EITHER a full stage 1 OR a free flowing air filter OR a non-standard exhaust AND no fuel injection refueling unit - YOU NEED TO READ THIS -

No re-fueler is going to work on your Buell (not as it is anyway), yep, you have really screwed it up by riding around with those engine modifications - the ECU doesn’t know where the hell it is, it has tried its best to compensate for the extra air you have let into the engine but has now lost the plot. if you fit our PowerPro
(Standard) to your bike - it still ain’t gonna work any better.

DON’T PANIC
You haven’t done any lasting damage, you just need to get the AFV reset to 100% and fit the PowerPro
(Standard) to your bike and jobs a goodun’.

What’s the AFV i hear you ask?
Well, the AFV is short for Adaptive Fuel Valve, just to confuse things even more it’s not a valve at all, it is actually part of the software in the ECU. Basically what the AFV does is it takes information from the O2 sensor (situated in your exhaust) and makes adjustments to the fuel map in the ECU. Under normal situations (with a standard Buell set up) it only has to make small adjustments to the map if for instance you where to ride from Blackpool tower to the top of Ben Nevis, as you get higher there is less air so it adjusts the map to put in less fuel.... Da Daaa....

Okay, its not actually that simple but that is the basic principle. Oh, and it only makes these adjustments when the ECU is running in ‘Closed Loop’ mode, however the effects of these adjustments are apparent even when running outside Closed loop when accelerating hard for instance.

‘Closed Loop’, by the way is when you are running between 1500 and 4000 rpm and between 10% and 30% throttle.

HOW CAN I SET THE AFV?
You have a couple of options:-
1. Do it yourself, we can supply computer based software that will allow you to set the AFV, view and reset diagnostic trouble codes and much more Click
HERE.
2. Take it to a Buell dealer, but don’t ride it home without the PowerPro on it or it will reset itself again!!!
